HIFU stands for High Intensity Focus Ultrasound. HIFU skin tightening is a non-invasive, non-ablative method that allows for energy deposition into the fascia, while avoiding epidermal heating. Collagen is the main structural protein in the extracellular matrix in the connective tissue. It consists of amino acids, bound together by hydrogen bonds to form triple helix. Collagen is important in wound healing and it is the main component in fascia, cartilage, bone, ligaments, tendons and skin.

 

HIFU will heat the tissue to 60 -70 C, which is the temperature at which collagen denaturation occurs and the tissue repair cascade begins.
