Anti-wrinkle injections

How Can Anti Wrinkle Injections Help?

Ageing results in reduction of collagen production and loss of elasticity in the skin. This can be due to simple genetics and how your skin changes over time but also a result of sun exposure, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption and dehydration. Anti-wrinkle injections, commonly known as Botox®, can reverse these signs of ageing no matter what has happened to your skin in the past.

By reducing overactive muscle movement in the face, you skin becomes relaxed and gets a chance to recover from continual movement. This gives your skin a smoother younger look.

The treatment is gentle lasting from 3-6 months and prevents these fine lines which gives our age away.

Will It Look Natural and Is It Safe?

Botulinum treatments such as Botox® and Azzalure have been used for decades in people who have neurological conditions and painful muscles spasm to ease the over-activity.

It is perfectly safe and there are no reported long-term adverse effects from any anti-wrinkles injections and the product is naturally broken down and cleared out of the muscles within 3-6 months of the treatment.

Treatment areas:

Frown Lines

Frown lines, are deep lines in-between your eyebrows often formed when concentrating or angry. If these are not treated, over time, a permanent line can appear. By treating with an anti-wrinkle relaxant, as soon as the fine lines appear, you can prevent deep grooves form forming and becoming permanent.

Anti-wrinkle injections, even twice yearly will dramatically decrease line formation and even clear fine lines permanently.

Forehead lines

You form forehead lines when raising your eyebrows or when surprised. They can easily be smoothed out with 4-6 very small injections.

Eye Lines (Crow’s Feet)

When you smile these fine lines appear around the eyes which pull on your eyes making you look older and your eyes smaller. Treatment in this area will not prevent you from smiling naturally but will make your eyes look fresher and brighter.

Armpits (Hyperhidrosis)

If you suffer from excessive sweating a 25-minute treatment can ensure no more embarrassing sweat marks on shirts and blouses for 9 months. The product is injected into the armpit, causes very little discomfort and is highly successful at reducing the activity of sweat glands.

Bunny Lines

These are the horizontal wrinkles that form across the bridge of your nose. 2 small injections into the muscle that causes this wrinkling around your nose will relax them, smoothing facial creases and your nasal bridge.

Sad Mouth

As you age, your mouth muscles can toughen and become tight pulling down the corners of the mouth, giving you a sad or stern expression. With just 2 small injections below the area, we can soften this muscle and give you a happier brighter look.

The Tight Chin

As your muscles age and become more ridged around the lower face and chin they can pull on your chin creating a protuberant pointy chin which is less attractive. Two simple injections can release this tight look and make your chin both smoother and less prominent.

Smoker’s Lines

These are the “puckered” lines around your lips. Many people who have never smoked may also have them. Anti-wrinkle products can be gently administered at very small doses above your lips and around the lines to soften them. They may be removed with fillers or plasma cautery as well.

Vertical Neck Lines (Platysmal Band)

Reduce the vertical lines running down your neck when you clench your teeth and tighten your jaw. This is achieved by softening the Platysmal band and can prevent the need for a neck lift. The result lasts 3-6 months.

Chin Lift

It will re establish your jawline and soften unsightly neck muscles, slimming your lower face.

A full history will be taken. The procedure will be explained in details with the benefits and any possible side effects. Your practitioner will also answer any queries you may have.

The treatment area will be cleansed and the product administered with a fine needle placed no more than 3 mm into the skin. Some patients barely even feel this whilst some will feel a small sting on needle entry that clears within seconds.

There may be small bumps where the product has been injected but these typically clear within 10 minutes. Treatment takes only 15 minutes and there is no recovery time and you can continue your daily life as usual.

After Treatment:

The wrinkle relaxing injection takes 10 - 15 days to have full effect. By week two your face should feel smoother and appear fresher. Over several months the muscles break down the treatment and by month 3-4 you will notice gradual movement returning to the treated muscles. Most patients come back for a second treatment from 4 months onwards depending on how much movement you wish to have. Large studies have shown that the results last longer after each consecutive treatment.

After the treatment you should avoid heat to the treated areas such as exercise, sauna or alcohol for 2-3 days and try to move these muscles frequently.

Side effects:

These are quite rare. They may include bruises, infection, droopy eye lids, asymmetry, and allergic reactions.

Dermal  Fillers

How can Dermal fillers help?

The term “dermal fillers” encompasses a wide range of products, and is an expression which describes treatment that restores volume and structure to the face.

Dermal fillers work to smooth fine lines and wrinkles in the skin to give a more youthful look. The high levels of HA (hyaluronic acid) have the effect of attracting and retaining water, instantly improving the skin’s appearance and texture by restoring its natural plumpness.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural ingredient that is found in the body, but diminishes as we age. They are a popular means of restoring volume to the facial structure, creating a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Your consultation

Before carrying out treatment, you will have a full history to plan your treatment. This not only ensures your safety is upheld at all times, it also means that you will gain optimum results from treatment.

Dos & Don’ts

It is advisable that you do not touch the area for 6 hours. Do not apply make up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral based. For 48 hours you should avoid exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc, as this may increase discomfort and swelling.

Avoid extreme cold, including ice packs that are directly applied to the skin. If necessary you can apply a cool compress to the area to reduce any discomfort or swelling. If you have had a local nerve infiltration injection please do not consume any hot or cold drinks until your sensation has returned to normal. You must also be careful when eating so as to avoid biting your lip.

You should avoid facial massages or skin resurfacing until the area has healed fully.

If you experience any lumpiness in the implantation area, it can be gently massaged to help smooth it out.

How soon will I see the results and how long will it last?

You should see the effects immediately, although the final results will become clear once any swelling has gone.

When to seek urgent review:

Allergy or infections can occur but are thankfully are extremely uncommon. If you get a painful or itchy bump or swelling near an injection site please contact your GP immediately for advice.

When immediate help may be required:

Pending Necrosis though extremely rare needs immediate attention to prevent scarring.  It is caused by filler or swelling disrupting the usual blood supply causing discolouration (pale or dusky coloured skin) usually associated with pain within the first few hours after a treatment. Higher risk areas are in the forehead or frown area, and the corner of the nose. It can occur in many places however. It requires an immediate return to the clinic or if after hours to A+E.

Though rare in the extreme, immediately after your treatment, if you were to start to feel generally unwell and develop swelling and redness around your face, you should seek an immediate advice. Anti-anaphylaxis measures are always available in the clinic.
